OUR TREATMENTS
Cholangiocarcinomas (bile duct cancer)
A resection of a cholangiocarcinoma from the liver. The red ties signify the arteries and the blue ties veins.
Cholangiocarcinomas refer to any cancer of the bile duct anatomy either within the liver or external to it. Surgical resection of the tumour is considered after imaging of the area and observing size and location of the tumour and the surrounding tissue. If resection is not feasible then chemotherapy or photo dynamic therapy and stenting should be considered. However, if there is associated jaundice then often the bile flow needs to be resumed before any further therapy can begin and here we would utilise the skills of the HPB radiologists to insert stents or drains to re-establish adequate drainage.
